12 DAYS IN LISBON | Web Summit, Wine and a lot of tiles

Hello lovely person, this time from Lisbon!

November 13th, I am sitting in a Starbucks in Lisbon writing this post. It is almost 20 degrees outside, the sky is clear blue and it is an absolutely amazing day!

I am very lucky to be able to spend 12 days in Lisbon for work. I attended a conference last week and this week it’s our global people team off-site, so I will spend another 4 days in Portugal.

Web Summit Lisbon

I was very lucky to get a ticket for Web Summit, one of the biggest Tech Conferences worldwide with more than 70,000 attendees. The trip is part of my personal development budget at TransferWise. Supported by Women in Tech, I was able to attend this conference and listen to the leaders of the tech world.

It was quite overwhelming to be surrounded by so many like minded people and thought leaders of the industry and to be honest, I felt a bit lost the first day. There are so many amazing talks on different stages that it was hard to decide where to go. But I feel like I managed quite well to get the most out of it – I attended talks about Fintech, Public speaking, Venture Capital and Hiring for Hyper-Growth and I talked to a looot of people during the 4 days of the conference.

I am feeling super inspired now and it definitely helped me a lot with the direction I want to go to in the next couple of years – to continue my career in tech and Entrepreneurship and public speaking.

A (rainy) weekend in Lisbon

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side during the weekend and it was heavy rain most of the time. But we made the best out of it and focused on the food and wine Lisbon has to offer and Lisbon didn’t disappoint here. I booked a lovely little Airbnb close to LxFactory, the ‘hipster’ neighbourhood of Lisbon with a lot of good food options.  We had a great dinner at 1300 Taberna. (try the Tomato Salad and the Bread as starters – amazing), amazing (and quite cheap) wine at A Praca and a very good Brunch at Wish (highly recommended).

And we’ve been lucky on Monday, as it cleared up in the afternoon and we were able to take at least a couple of nice pictures.

A sunny second week in Portugal

And after all this rain last week, the sun is back and it reveals the beauty of Lisbon.  I am staying for a couple more days to spend time with my team before flying back to London.

Overall, I really like Lisbon and the laid-back atmosphere here right now. Barely any tourists, good food and amazing wine make Lisbon a very nice city – I’d highly recommend to check it out.
